SONIA BORELLA has been a media, entertainment and corporate partner of national law firm Holding Redlich since 2007. She has more than 15 years experience of advising a wide cross-section of clients in the media and entertainment industries, including studios, production companies, financiers, investors, broadcasters, screen agencies, developers, publishers, talent and creative agencies.

Sonia advises on all aspects of the production and finance of film and television projects, including structures and the requirements for the Producer Offset, the Location Offset and the PDV Offset, and the various State incentives.

One of Sonia’s particular areas of expertise is official co-productions, a subject on which she regularly writes and presents and is actively involved with policy issues, and she has advised on numerous official co-productions including one of the few Australia-China official co-productions 33 Postcards, and one of the few trilateral official co-productions with Australia Zigby.

Some films which Sonia has advised on include Mad Max: Fury Road and Happy Feet Two (Kennedy Miller Mitchell); Deepsea Challenge and Sanctum (producer Andrew Wight; executive producer James Cameron); and Knowing (producer and director: Alex Proyas).

Sonia holds Bachelor of Laws (Honours) and Bachelor of Commerce degrees from the Australian National University and a Master of Laws (Media, Communications and Information Technology Law) from the University of New South Wales.
